A Busy, Fun Weekend

This weekend we traveled back to Brewton for Morgan to hang out with "Big Papa" and to attend the wedding of one of my childhood friends.

Bonding with Big Papa:

Morgan and me with the beautiful bride:

Saturday Steve offered to watch Morgan so I could have some "me" time. I invited a few friends over and we had fun in the pool. I did really well for the first couple of hours, but then I couldn't stand it. I sent Steve a text and he brought Morgan out to play with us. She absolutely LOVES bath time so I thought that she'd like the pool too. I was right; she had a blast once she got used to it!

One Month Update A Little Late

It is so hard to believe our little angel is already one month old! It is bittersweet for me. I'm sad because I love her being so tiny and cuddly, but I'm excited because I know that as she gets older she'll become more expressive and we'll be able to do tons of exciting stuff together.

First month stats:
Weight- 9 pounds, 12 ounces (50%)
Length- 22 1/2" (90%!)
You are eating two ounces every two hours. We don't have to keep up with the time, you let us know when it is time to eat.

Adventures your first month:
~ You went to Hickory Dickory Park with mom and her class. All of the kids loved you and wanted to hold you, but we wouldn't let them.
~ Dad left us when you were 12 days old. Mommy was scared to take care of you on her own, but we had some visitors the first few days and then we did just fine. It was during the time he was gone (6 days) that you learned how to sleep at night.
~ You traveled to Montgomery to listen to dad's band play.
~ You also made your first trip to Brewton where you went to your first restaurant, David's Catfish.

Other info:
~ You started out with your days and nights mixed up, but we got that all straightened out mid-month. Now, you wake up once or twice to eat, but you go right back to sleep when you're finished. We can't ask for more than that! =-)
~ You are still sleeping in your Pack n Play in our bedroom. You're doing such a good job sleeping that we're afraid to change anything. There's plenty of time for you to move to your crib.
~ You only eat from a bottle. You never did get the hang of nursing so after a week of trying and mom crying because you weren't eating, we gave up. Mom pumps and gives you the milk from a bottle instead.
~ Everywhere we go random people tell us that you're beautiful and that you look like an Anne Geddes baby.
~ You are extremely expressive, especially when you sleep.
~ You were born with great head control. When you were two hours old, daddy put you on my tummy and you lifted your head, looked around the room, and laid your head back down. This wasn't a one time thing, you continue to have amazing control over your head.
~ Kicking off your blanket seems to be your favorite game. As soon as I cover you up, those legs start kicking and the blanket comes off.
~ You will take a pacifier, but you don't have to have it. We usually give it to you if you're ready to eat and mom doesn't have your bottle ready.
~ You LOVE your swing. You swing all the time and you love to listen to Mandisa while you're swinging- such a Mommy's Girl!
~ You spend a lot of time on your Boppy and you really seem to like it, but your favorite place to be is in mom or dad's arms.
~ You are the happiest baby I've ever seen! You rarely cry and if you do it's because you're hungry or have gas.

Thank you for coming into our lives and making life so much sweeter! We love you!

Meeting the Grandparents

Having our precious baby girl was a bittersweet time for both Steve and me. Each of us has lost a parent- his dad, my mom. While they couldn't be here in physical form, we know that they were with us in spirit and we think they helped God design our sweet little bundle of joy. Here's Morgan sporting our wedding rings, the rings that once belonged to our parents:

May 2010

If I was good, I'd post all of these separately, but since I'm doing this one-handed (Morgan is in my other arm) and a month late, I'm just happy it is getting done. =-)

Here is a run-down of the month of May:

Monday, May 10- We finally got discharged from the hospital. Morgan weighed 8.38 pounds when she was born on Friday and by Sunday she was down to 7.50 and was refusing to eat so we earned ourselves an additional day in the hospital. Our sweet "niece" Lauren decorated our yard for Morgan's homecoming and our neighbor came over to take pictures when we arrived home.

The sign from our church:

Tuesday, May 11- Bath time! She was not a fan of her first bath.

Mommy consoling her after her bath:

Monday, May 17- Morgan had her first doctor's appointment. Everything went well and we found out that she was gaining weight... finally!
She doesn't like having her vitals taken:

So her Daddy consoles her:

Wednesday, May 19- Steve left for Minnesota. While he was gone I had several visitors to help out. My friend Beth came for the first night. My dad was here Thursday until Saturday, and then it was just Mommy and Morgan until Steve returned on Monday, the 24th. I had absolutely no confidence that we could make it, but somehow we survived. It gave me a whole new appreciation for single moms and made me more thankful for my wonderful husband.

Tuesday, May 25- Morgan and I ventured out on our own for the first time. We went to the local playground to visit my class. It was the last day of school and I promised my kids I'd let them meet the baby they watched grow inside my belly all year. Morgan did really well at the park and seemed to enjoy being out of the house for a little while.

Saturday, May 29- I woke up with mastitis. That has to be THE most painful thing ever! The pain/discomfort I experienced after my c-section was nothing compared to this. Due to this being a holiday weekend (I can't get sick when normal people do!) I spent the entire day trying to find someone to write me a prescription for an antibiotic. Morgan's doctor is AWESOME! He was on vacation, but still called it in for me. We had already planned to go visit my dad that weekend so it was nice to have an extra set of hands to help out with little Miss Morgan.
On Saturday, she went to her first restaurant. Here she is at David's Catfish:

In the big rocking chair outside the restaurant:

Sunday, May 30- Morgan got to meet a lot of my friends.
Here's Emma Kate being a good baby sitter:

Cile giving her a few pointers:

Maggie was super sweet to Morgan!

Monday, May 31- We stopped on our way home to see Steve's brother and his family. This was Ryan's first time to meet his baby cousin.

Pat doesn't seem so tough with a newborn. =-)

All in all, I'd say that May was an extremely productive, busy month! We're loving every minute with our little angel!

Morgan's Arrival

A month has passed since our little angel was born and I'm just now getting around to posting about it. Is this normal? I'll try to do better.

Here is a picture of me before we left for the hospital the morning of May 7.

Pre-Op: Let's just say that my time in pre-op got me more nervous than I already was. The nurses came in fussing about who was having to take blood, vitals, etc. Eventually they figured it all out and I was prepped for surgery. Here is our last photo as a family of two:

My dad made it to Auburn in time to see me before I was taken into surgery.

Steve proudly displaying the "Dad pass"

At this point, I was wheeled across the hall to begin the c-section. Steve was told to stay in the pre-op room and they would notify him when/if he could come over. Can I just say that I was a bundle of emotions? I was excited to meet our little angel, nervous about becoming a parent and all it entails, terrified of the operation I was about to undergo, and angry that Steve couldn't be there with me from the beginning. The precious nurse I had to hold onto for the spinal was eight months pregnant so I was afraid to squeeze her hard for fear they would have to deliver two babies that morning.
I was given the spinal (like an epidural, but deeper) and then literally thrown onto the operating table for them to begin the procedure. I looked up when I was lying on the table and I had a perfect reflection in the plastic of the lights of my stomach. I didn't care what they were doing, but I knew that I didn't want to watch so my eyes remained closed through the procedure.
The next thing I remember was the smell of burning flesh and then Steve walked in. He held my restrained hand and must have looked like paparazzi with his digital and video cameras proudly strapped around his neck. A few minutes later (after some pulling and tugging, the weirdest feeling ever) a beautiful little girl appeared over the blue sheet and our precious daughter was finally here.
